Screen Innovations Reinvents the Video Wall

Wednesday, February 01, 2017

Screen Innovations (SI), the innovators who introduced Black Diamond®, the first-ever ambient-light rejecting screen which revolutionized the video projection screen industry, has announced the introduction of Tiles, a new screen tiling system that redefines the video wall category.

Built with the award-winning Black Diamond® screen technology, Tiles can go as large as 288” W by 162” H (330” diagonal), and is 4K/8K+ rated and UHD/HDR ready.

“Black Diamond® has been touted as the best screen that money can buy however, it comes with limitations,” says Skyler Meek, Director of Marketing for SI. “Because of the extreme engineering required to manufacture the optical qualities in the material, it is limited in height. To overcome this, SI has created a system that uses smaller, rigid tiles precision-bonded together in order to create one larger screen.”

To build a Black Diamond® video wall, panels are placed next to each other with a nearly invisible seam, and stacked in a running-bond pattern for superior strength. This is achieved by SI’s all-new, computer controlled cutting system, which is capable of cutting to extremely precise specifications. This attention to detail is what ensures that customers receive the best possible accuracy, quality, and longevity from their tile screens.

To ensure that the installation process is as time-efficient and simple as possible, SI has designed a system that is 75% pre-fabricated; each panel then snaps into place with an attachment system that utilizes neodymium magnets. This installation process allows integrators to assemble a video wall of any size with ease minimizing hassle on the job. All panels are precision-cut and stocked in three sizes: 45”, 50” and 55” for 16:9 and 43”, 48”, and 53” for 16:10.

“What’s so revolutionary about this system,” Skyler Meek continues, “is that there is now a solution for a massive ‘video wall’ type screen without any of the headaches, installation problems, or budget concerns that give integrators nightmares. Tiles require only a single light source, are a breeze to install, and are maintenance free (except for the occasional gentle dusting.) And the technology is future-proofed with 8K+ resolution rating and UHD/HDR capability.”

“Tiles with Black Diamond® are the perfect solution for commercial installations and high traffic areas such as digital signage, restaurants, educational facilities, stadiums, and just about any location where bright, detailed images are critical.”

World’s First Rollable Television Now Shipping Worldwide

Wednesday, February 01, 2017

Screen Innovations (SI), the purveyors of innovation in the two-piece projection industry, has announced the future of television with Zero-G®, a revolutionary new motorized projection screen that, when deployed, literally appears to be floating in midair and rolls out of the way when not in use.

“Zero-G has created a lot of buzz in the industry, and many competitors are already taking pictures of it at our trade-shows, trying to figure it out,” said Ryan Gustafson, Chief Innovator of SI. “We are pleased to announce that Zero-G—the world’s first Rollable TV®—is now shipping worldwide.

Levitating

Zero-G was created to allow you to watch a game or your favorite movie on an image that “levitates” in your space on cables that can be color-matched to one of several proprietary color options in order to be as un-obtrusive as possible. When matched to their surrounding wall or background color, these cords become nearly invisible in the space creating the illusion of a levitating screen.

Don’t Re-arrange Your Room

“We have heard from so many people that they had to completely alter the natural orientation of their room because there was only one place they could mount a television.” Said Blake Vackar, Director of Commercial Sales at SI. “Even motorized screens can sometimes be a visual nuisance with a large ‘black-drop’ connecting the viewing surface to the case. Since Zero-G is suspended by cables it can be placed anywhere in a room even in front of a bay of windows or art-deco wall.

Simplified Installation

SI has included an array of features that makes Zero-G a simple product to install and setup. Removable PCB, upper lift tubes, and factory pre-programmed bomb-bay doors on its flush model, are just a few of these features. SI has also engineered an automatic upper limit setting by using an optical sensor, and will also optionally ship the material tube separate from the case for new construction installations.

A Completely Unique Screen

Vackar continues, “Zero-G is a completely unique screen that does not exist anywhere else and is completely new to the two-piece projection industry.”

Screen Material Options:

SI’s award-winning, ambient-light-rejecting Slate® material or Pure®—SI’s superior quality white or gray screen.

Screen Sizes:

Up to a maximum of 160-inches diagonally in 16:9 aspect ratio—ideal for large residential or commercial installations.

Panasonic releases HDR update for CX800 TV Series

Tuesday, August 30, 2016

Panasonic has released a new firmware update for its 2015 CX800 TV Series to support the playback of HDR (High Dynamic Range) content.

What is High Dynamic Range (HDR)?

Films and TV programmes which have been shot in High Dynamic Range appear much closer to the way your eyes see the real world. This is because HDR content is recorded using a Perceptual Quantiser curve that's based on the characteristics of human sight. The results are images with greater detail, texture, depth, and colour response.

This new level of realism has been achieved because of the way HDR expands contrast ratio and colour accuracy. The bright parts of the image become so much brighter, giving images more depth. Meanwhile the colour range has also been expanded to show more shades so that true colour is depicted on the screen as it is in real life.

Marantz unveils Network AV Receiver SR6011 with 9 power amps

Wednesday, July 27, 2016

Mahwah, NJ (July 27, 2016) – Marantz®, a world leader in advanced audio technologies, continues to add to its 2016 home theater line-up with the SR6011, which follows the recently announced slim-design NR1607 and full-size SR5011. The Marantz SR6011 offers a step-up in quality build and design, sonic performance and features for the advanced home cinema enthusiast. A key attribute in this price-class is that it comes with 9 power amplifiers that are each rated at 110 watts for greater flexibility in multi-room and 3D sound setups.

Packed with all the latest audio and video technologies, the Marantz SR6011 is an ideal addition to any home cinema, thanks to Dolby Atmos® and DTS:X compatibility. Both new formats feature object-based surround sound with the ability to drive overhead speakers to deliver the ultimate immersive 3D audio experience. To enjoy the new dimensions with ease, the SR6011 is equipped with 9 channel amplification, enabling users to setup a 7.1.2 or 5.1.4 speaker 3D experience without the need of an external amplifier. If users choose to use an external amplifier, the setup can be extended to 7.1.4 because the SR6011 features 11.2 channel processing. If the SR6011 is not in use for 3D audio, the integrated amplifiers can get assigned to drive another pair of speakers in a second audio zone, running a different source than the main room.

The SR6011 features high-grade audio components that have been carefully selected for the renowned Marantz sound. The whole internal circuit further enhances audio quality by delicately handling all signals via the Marantz-own HDAMs (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) in Current Feedback topology before passing them on to the power stage to fire up the connected speakers. The powerful amplifier section features discrete high current output devices on all 9 channels, and all amp channels are configured identically. Rated at 110 watts per channel (8 ohms, 0.08%, 20Hz~20kHz), the SR6011 has the ability to drive lower impedance 4 ohm speakers on all channels. It has enough power to fill large rooms, and thanks to advanced Audyssey MultEQ XT32 is tailored perfectly to any individual listening room.

Prepared for the future, the SR6011 features an advanced video section that's fully compatible with the latest HDMI 2.0a and HDCP 2.2 specifications on all 8 HDMI inputs. With 4K Ultra HD 60Hz video, 4:4:4 Pure Color sub-sampling, High Dynamic Range (HDR), 21:9 video, 3D, and BT.2020 pass-through support on every input, the SR6011 is ready for 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc players, set-top boxes and other 4K Ultra HD sources. In addition, the SR6011 can upscale standard and high definition analog and digital video content to 4K Ultra HD, breathing new life into favorite legacy sources.

Full wireless connectivity is provided by both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth®, with dual antennas that help ensure robust signal transmission and reception. Once connected, music can easily be streamed through AirPlay®, network attached storage devices (NAS), Internet Radio, Pandora®, SiriusXM, and Spotify Connect® (where available; subscription required). High resolution audio formats and playback are fully supported for incredible fidelity. To round up the flexibility, an 11.2 channel pre-out section, the RS232 port, IP control and support for Crestron Connected makes the SR6011 very appealing for advanced custom installation purposes

No need to study a manual to set-up the SR6011; users can follow the on-screen instructions with the assistance of the Graphical User Interface, Setup Assistant, and Audyssey MultEQ® room calibration. Once set up, daily operation is simple and convenient with the new Marantz 2016 AVR Remote app available on iOS, Android and Kindle Fire. For those energy savings, the SR6011 includes a smart ECO mode that can automatically save significant electrical power without influencing the overall performance.

Panasonic launches New Zealand’s first 4K Ultra-High Definition Blu-ray Player

Friday, June 24, 2016

Panasonic New Zealand has today unveiled New Zealand's first 4K Ultra-High Definition (UHD) Blu-ray Player, the DMP-UB900, an exciting new product that brings breath-taking picture quality, far better than the cinema into the home.

Heralded by critics globally as the leading Ultra-High Definition Blu-ray Player in the market, Panasonic's new flagship UB900 UHD Blu-ray Player supports next-generation UHD 4K Blu-ray video disc standard.

Delivering both high-quality 4K images and High Dynamic Range (HDR), the DMP-UB900 provides precise detail and stunning colour depth, transforming movie and TV show viewing experiences into a visual feast.

Grant Shaw, Audio Visual Group Product Manager at Panasonic New Zealand says demand for 4K entertainment options are on the rise and the UB900 offers an exciting new viewing experience for those who are after the finest picture and sound quality.

"When pairing the UB900 with Panasonic's new 4K Pro Smart Ultra-High Definition TVs, Kiwis will enjoy movies at home with a quality more superior than they would see in a cinema.

"Ultra HD Blu-ray is a big step up compared to traditional Blu-ray - it brings a level of picture performance that is to Hollywood standard and hasn't been seen in the home before. We are viewing more and more content at home and now we can watch our favourite movies, documentaries and TV shows with crisp and vibrant colour, along with phenomenal detail," says Grant.

Panasonic's Hollywood Laboratory (PHL) Blu-ray Research and Development facility refined new imaging technologies including chroma processing to create the Ultra HD Premium certified DMP-UB900. These innovative technologies deliver cinematic-quality images, which is exactly how Hollywood filmmakers intended them to look.

In addition, the UB900 offers dramatically improved audio and truly life-like surround sound so viewers can get immersed in the world they are watching and intensify their viewing experience. It features carefully selected high-quality audio parts for a rich sound expression, and the UB900 also supports high-resolution audio formats such as DSD and ALAC.

"The UB900 features high-quality audio components which are equivalent to those found in Panasonic's hi-fi audio range. Viewers will feel as if they are part of the action when watching thrillers, blockbuster action movies, all the way through to documentaries," says Grant.

Ultra HD Blu-ray: next-generation video disc standard

Ultra-High Definition Blu-ray is the next-generation Blu-ray Disc™ standard that not only delivers 4K-resolution pictures, but also goes beyond the capabilities of 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) by supporting HDR.

It achieves true-to-life 4K image reproduction with high frame rates of up to 60p for smooth motion and a brightness range of up to 1,000 to 10,000 nits.

Bringing a cinematic-experience to your home

The UB900 has recently achieved ULTRA HD PREMIUM certification by the UHD Alliance's programme for outstanding brightness, resolution, contrast and HDR performance. In addition, its ability to render finely nuanced colours and rich, detailed images has earned the UB900 certification from THX® Ltd. a renowned independent quality assurance group.

High-quality audio parts for unparalleled sound

For the UB900, Panasonic has drawn on their extensive and innovative history in hi-fi audio product development to ensure superb sound.

It comes with numerous digital and analogue terminals to suit a wide-range of home entertainment set-ups. The new twin HDMI ports separate audio and video signals to suppress unwanted noise and achieve high-quality audio reproduction. It also supports analogue 7.1-channel audio for a direct connection to a home theatre system for an even more powerful surround sound experience.

Additionally, the UB900 has been designed for high-resolution audio reproduction. In addition to the conventional WAV/FLAC/MP3/AAC/WMA formats, DSD and ALAC music files can be reproduced by connecting a home audio system. This allows Kiwis to enjoy music sources equivalent to studio master sound quality.

Kiwis can enjoy a variety of 4K entertainment with smart networking options

With the 4K Video / JPEG Playback function, Kiwis can enjoy 4K videos (MP4) which they've taken with a camera or camcorder, and they can also view JPEGs in 4K resolution. This feature makes it easy to view precious photos of family and friends, along with enjoying memories from holidays in detail.

The UB900 features DLNA connectivity, making it easy to share content, such as photos, video and music - with other connected devices throughout the home. Every member of the family can enjoy their favourite content, anytime and anywhere in the home.

Kiwi entertainment fans can enjoy 4K video streaming services, including NETFLIX and YouTube, through the UB900's range of apps. The UB900's remote control also features a dedicated NETFLIX button which seamlessly and easily launches the NETFLIX app.

Simple and elegant design gives the UB900 a stylish presence

With an elegant and stylish design, the UB900 perfectly matches any flat-panel TV. Its mirrored front panel features a 3D bevel cut finish design on all four sides of the unit, which presents a subtle and sleek, yet distinctive presence.

The UB900's unique remote control has backlighting for easy operation, even in a darkly-lit room, making it perfect for home theatre systems. In addition, the remote features a dimmer button which automatically adjusts the brightness of the player's display to match the room's ambient lighting.
